This sculpture was made from a single plank of maple that exhibited burl, straight grain, and figure. The piece was created using a technique called “segmenting”, where a single piece of wood is cut into pieces and they are joined end to end. There is a steel inner core to the form, like an armature. The black marble base is fastened from beneath.
